The Extradition Saga of Terraform Labs Co-Founder Do Kwon

The extradition drama surrounding Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, has taken another turn with the Appellate Court of Montenegro giving the green light for his extradition to South Korea. This decision comes after a series of appeals and back-and-forths regarding his fate.

Kwon, along with Terraform Labs’ Chief Executive Officer, was arrested back in March 2023 in Montenegro. Initially, the CEO was ordered to be extradited to the US, but the Appellate Court intervened, leading to a new twist in the legal saga. Despite winning three previous appeals to prevent his extradition to either South Korea or the United States, Kwon ultimately lost this latest round.

The Appellate Court of Montenegro confirmed the previous decision to extradite Do Kwon to his native country, South Korea. It was revealed that the request from South Korea arrived before the one from the US, which played a crucial role in the Court’s decision. While the exact timing of the extradition was not disclosed, South Korea’s Police have reportedly sought assistance from Interpol to bring Kwon back to the country.

On the other hand, US prosecutors, who had filed charges against Kwon related to the collapse of TerraUSD (UST) stablecoin and the LUNA token, are looking to challenge his extradition to South Korea. Despite being sentenced to four months in prison for carrying a fake passport, Kwon’s legal battle seems far from over.

The extradition saga of Do Kwon serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in international legal proceedings. With multiple countries involved and differing interests at play, the fate of the Terraform Labs co-founder remains uncertain. As the legal battle continues to unfold, only time will tell where Kwon will ultimately end up facing charges related to his involvement with Terraform Labs.
